If any member of Congress utters another word about football or any sport for that matter other that on their "tea" or "potty" break they should be fired. You just made one of the stupidest investments in the history of the country(GM) and now you think you need to "fix" something else. NO THANK YOU! If I had just convinced a group to make a huge investment in a company only a few weeks before that same company went bankrupt, I think I would keep the advice at a minimum for a while. Congress needs to follow the example of another big mouth who gave some bad investment advice( see picture) an apologize.Ryanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11964121313911120429noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-965822898198485672.post-29269960200631453622009-04-12T17:11:00.000-07:002009-04-12T17:46:17.661-07:00Today I was able to attend church for the first time in months due to Publix being closed for Easter Sunday. While you might at first think that Valdostans are in fact truly stupid and can't comprehend the complexity of a game with two goals, two teams and he who scores the most wins this is not in fact the case at all. It is actually a well known yet unspoken rule that if you show any comprehension or interest in Soccer that you immediately drop one class level. Actually showing understanding of Soccer might also show that you don't love other much less complex sports such as Baseball and Football with all you heart and soul. This is a risk that most people are not willing to take. I guess I will admit that Soccer can be a bit confusing for newcomers to the sport I mean two goals, two teams, offsides, whistles, goals, forwards and halftimes these are some pretty weird terms for a sporting events. She has only been at it since Christmas and she has already made seventy three garments. Thats right seventy three in a little over a month, so you do the math. I guess word got out of her speed and she was offered jobs by Nike,The Gap and Kathy Lee Gifford all in the same week. She must have developed this speed when she visited a great sewing factory we found on the south side...These are some of the hard workers we saw. Wow, were they fast! They had very little time for advise though. Their sewing style reminded me of Sara's, minus the intensity and occasional profanity. After we left the factory I decided to make a garment rack for Sara's creations so I dropped by to see my good friend Consuelo. He found this great pole at a construction site. I think it will do the trick. This is Consuelo with the pole, I am not sure if will be long enough.

Ryanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11964121313911120429noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-965822898198485672.post-46586764892154387262009-01-20T12:10:00.000-08:002009-01-20T13:06:12.974-08:00What a day!
"What the cynics fail to understand is that the ground has shifted beneath them - that the stale political arguments that have consumed us for so long no longer apply." This is the line from the inauguration speech that I will remember the most. While I sat an watched the events of today I heard the tired already illegitimate argument of Black people's ceiling breaking. This was one of the themes that was pushed by several media types. The theme that I felt more than any was best described by Obama's line directed at the "cynics." The ground has shifted beneath us all. The days of quiet hatred toward other races are numbered. We will probably not see it in our lifetime simply because it will take time to allow the old school " this is the way I was raised " crowd to pass on. It will take time to see those who think it is OK to use certain words when certain people are not around pass on. I hoped that this would be the beginning of something that will be better for our country but instead I think that the ground has already shifted, some of us just need to catch up. I am anxious to see how many prayers will still be offered on the behalf of our nation's leader now that our leader is no longer wearing cowboy boots. Ryanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11964121313911120429noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-965822898198485672.post-72906862714561413302008-11-06T16:49:00.000-08:002008-11-06T17:17:13.890-08:00What an opportunity!!!

Another four years have past and the the beauty of democracy has taken its course. I was listening to a conversation at work today that concluded with the statement, " Barack Obama is not my President." I had to laugh out loud. What a complete 180 we have had. It seems like yesterday that we on the so called "right" were dismissing those who made the same exact comments about President Bush as Idiots. We are all Americans and should unite to support our President. Should we agree with his every decision, no. Is he going to make some bad choices, probably. But seriously " he is not my President" Sorry he is my president whether I voted for him or not and I hope that we don't act as simplistic as those that sounded so foolish after Bush "stole" the election from Gore. What an opportunity to act like Americans!
Ryanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11964121313911120429noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-965822898198485672.post-86488386015964246472008-11-05T18:38:00.001-08:002008-11-05T19:19:18.567-08:00Crisis?

No, this is not the "crisis" most are thinking of. I am thinking about the crisis of food in America. I cant tell you how many times a day I hear people complain about the price of food. These complaints are almost always followed with a question of when will the prices go back down? This assumes that they will go back down, and you know what they say about assuming... This is one suggestion from Michael Pollan whose article from the New York Times was linked on my favorite Blog rulman.com "Make changes in our daily lives: teach children how to cook; plant gardens in every primary school and equip them with kitchens; pay for culinary tuitions (or forgive loans) by requiring culinary graduates to give some service back to such undertakings such as teaching kids how to cook; increase school lunch spending by $1 a day; grow more of our own food and prepare and eat our food together at a table; accept the fact that food may be more expensive and eat less of it." Holy cow! These are great suggestions. Will they solve the problem and lower food prices? Of course not, but he is right on point with teaching kids to cook, planting gardens, eating together at a table, and eating less. How many young people do you know that know how to cook? I hope that it is not a dying art. How many families do you know that sit at the table together and eat at least a few times a week? Some of the most vivid memories of my childhood are from the cool mornings spending time with my parents in our family garden. Or standing on a stool to help my mom with dinner. Then finally sitting at the table with the whole family.
Ryanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11964121313911120429noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-965822898198485672.post-15536836025641234132008-09-16T04:24:00.000-07:002008-09-16T04:42:15.942-07:00Thanks a BIG ONE!<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFqZOWyMGqRUQEng7xetBCAjKmALWEI9gDYejOTzPO1A5g22Do7zefFeiFuK06XT2IN_TUXJCE5vXYM7gaGwzaB5xfbKlTnp3uE1z_EEzRgKT0-e1i3pfIFSmYOhx1IGw3bKtL8smzjHue/s320/art_bentonville_gas_ir.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5246581872574028034" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQ0i4p4DbWfQ7yfZbg997uB7xdQtcJdgK19lTTOIj7wK_p3NmU6B5g8pOuc0xMTmqdAZeULG51gOGxoyVXQeaZVYiOJDYjLJSZeGrSDlDfOE_wdww-52B8X-PNBnrMt0BLf4z_dVFJD0fr/s320/art_cumming_gas_ir.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5246581877033486370" />
To all the numb nuts who desperately still cling to the idea that the Government is in control of gas prices and "Supply and Demand" is just a theory or even a myth... Janet Brown oversees these groups, sets up the
times and dates of the showers, and coordinates details
with the honoree, the church office, and the shower group
leader. The elders have set up some guidelines for her to
follow in determining who is given a Central shower:
Bridal Showers
Bridal showers will be given for any Central member or
fiancee of a Central member, if it is the first marriage for
the Central member. Bridal showers will also be given for
the first marriages of the children of Central members, if
that child spent part of his or her childhood attending
Central.
Bridal showers will not be given for expectant mothers.
Bridal showers will not be given for the grandchildren of
Central members, unless that grandchild ls a Central
member, or has attended Central regularly with his or her
grandparents.
Baby Showers
Baby showers will be given for the first baby of a Central
member, or the first baby born after the parent(s) becomes
a member at Central. Baby showers will not be
given for unmarried mothers-ta-be, nor for Central members'
children who are not members at Central themselves,
even if they grew up at Central.

Ryanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11964121313911120429noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-965822898198485672.post-66959204379790893772008-08-17T16:52:00.000-07:002008-08-17T17:24:39.444-07:00Quick Thinking<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAn5jhVzQ9WycvC_yuXQKNQvF2DUgM7aElLuEKakebARgHPmnGhZRlG76TuENrrRZv4RuWJJWr9xee7b0GMlzmagIu0T6TW1hcflYLukwFhD8yXCeTJiqmyU8ggloNYO-U_73kUWH4vuJk/s320/K_tony_thumbs_up.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5235646992264350626" />
Today was my first day back to work with Publix. The morning started off good because I actually made it to work on time. I have not worked at this store in a while so one of the managers tried to introduce me to as many people as he could. I got to work at 3 and when the next people came in Ernie(the manager) said...
"Ryan, this is Robert the Grocery team leader."
"Very nice to meet you Robert."

As I am greeting Robert I reached for his hand to give him a "nice to meet you" hand shake. Before my hand was completely extended I noticed something that caused me to think very fast. Robert had no right hand, only a thumb. "Do I grasp the thumb and shake or cross over to the other hand?" "If I shake the thumb... NO TIME, Must react!!!" So I smoothly continued my motion strait to his shoulder and gave him a good "nice to meet you" pat on the shoulder. In the end I think it worked out well. Everyone was very friendly and it is nice to be back with some old co-workers.Ryanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11964121313911120429noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-965822898198485672.post-33646915333701688052008-08-09T11:45:00.000-07:002008-08-09T18:58:52.263-07:00Why I love food!<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrQxP_bI9jqKELiRZQMhUNsAGBOs7WMoZXwcNP55fiAa8v8PFHsd1ufUzrPLM26An5ldQhEj-sCXYMuCFpL6AdWAfth6mZFPDpymzrONj_OxmC55GDRn-ZrwvecMQB6di52G2nUQechEn0/s320/knife.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5232698053040000050" />
There are moments in my life when old memories come back to me. Usually they are triggered by a sound, smell, someone or something. They can be bad memories but they are usually good. More times than not if it is a good memory food or a meal is involved. I think about the first time I made pancakes with my mom.The taste of melted butter and the deep black color of her cast iron skillet. The smell of onions and peppers when my dad would make chili and we would take it to my Aunt and Uncle's house. Smoke in the air makes think of grilling chicken on the porch with my boys handing me the tongs, sauce or a pan to carry in the food. Of course the smell of smoke also makes me want to be back in North Carolina. The kids running around, the soothing rumble of the creek in the background. I remember the times in the kitchen tent cooking and visiting with my adopted family. I can remember almost every occasion that I have cooked or baked something with my Sara. She has always been my biggest fan and toughest critic. She is always brutally honest. She is probably the biggest reason that I love to cook. It has always been something we both love. Sitting around the table with the people you love and enjoying company and a good meal is probably the most relaxing, enjoyable and memory building occasion I can think of. When that meal is a great meal such as a perfectly roasted chicken, or pork that just falls to pieces and melts in your mouth, the memories are just that much better. I love food... I love sharing it even more.Ryanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11964121313911120429noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-965822898198485672.post-2989303720103401962008-08-04T17:49:00.001-07:002008-12-09T13:38:25.492-08:00What is your major?<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7LLjZjXCBqIlyPubWIiZ28NrNQniIXl2NzjgLeDQ2DGeYy7y9fZBo4GhzHAC_HQ1HRyu_LKopUgiYj4ieMWJbs_Ej-mz3fIuhu9kzWHJNRvUaRuA1kTnuKktkZ4vDdNekb_i6EJ0AhTrw/s320/scholar.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5231009350954973362" />
This seems to be the question that must be asked to assist someone in finding possible employment. What is it that you do? What would you like to do? I would love to say that I admire the people that have a "dream" job or profession or know what they want to do, but a lack of understanding is closer. I lack about twelve classes to receive my all powerful "degree" that will allow me to apply for jobs other that assembly line worker and retail associate of you fill in the blank. The question that is too easily answered is " how will I be different?" I will have a nice piece of paper rolled up in an oversize toilet paper roll that I can put next to my wife's matching roll. In a way I feel that a degree will only limit me. It will be my major and that is what I will do. Yeah! It is not that I dislike my major or that I would prefer another. I just find it very binding. But I digress a job is all I need for now. Something to pay the bills or most of them at least. Something that has normal hours, does not require me to sell my soul and something that does not kill what brain cells I have left to pursue "my major."Ryanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11964121313911120429noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-965822898198485672.post-38322422494518946232008-08-03T10:20:00.000-07:002008-12-09T13:38:25.669-08:00Gay> or = ???<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDmqyqlzzXsmCYMTHirzpVfj7QPW6zgdrn1N-elM7RHZ2cfjBWXD1gQkQZ9dNSdwDTwS7jyV9wkY_yvLNl_ocdcyqGP_5Ij51uJmtEOKLaS7o6IXg84LE-2QLu_U9OBbNCaTO0WJr1juqb/s320/Scared.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5230357750531718386" />
Oh the joy of returning to a small town church. Where everyone knows your name, and their always glad you came! We have only been back in Valdosta long enough to attend church twice. During those two visits I have learned two things. First, all Muslims are evil and we should fear them. Second, the greatest sin of all is to be Gay. That's right God has finally ranked the sins and homosexuality is numeral uno. Why is this not found anywhere in the Bible you may ask? Apparently that is not important anymore and we are able as Christians to rank the sins based on who or what gives us the creeps. I also learned this morning that it is bad or maybe even a sin to suggest that gay people will make it to heaven. So lets get this strait. God, who sent his son to die on the cross, to save "all" of us from our sins has decided that because being gay is the number one sin therefore does not apply to the cross. Unbelievable, I must have missed that lesson in Sunday school. I am completely aware that we all must repent of our sins so I am in no way saying that sinning is good or OK. So who will be in heaven? Well going by what I learned in bible class as a kid, sinners! That's right! So brace yourselves fellow "Christians" for murders, thieves, liers and even shhhhhh, don't say it too loud "gay people." Sin is sin is sin is sin and thankfully what happened on the cross is bigger than ALL of them and all of the inhabitants of heaven will be sinners, period. I am not saying that we should change our beliefs, just our attitudes that seem sometimes a wee bit arrogant, homophobic and for the sack of not using a stronger word," stupid."Ryanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11964121313911120429noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-965822898198485672.post-7588418311812096622008-08-02T18:18:00.000-07:002008-12-09T13:38:25.935-08:00Would you care for some cheese with that whine?

As most of you learned from Sara's blog we took kids to open house on Thursday night .The boys had a great time meeting their new teachers. My job for the evening was entertain the Girl child. Everything was going very smoothly for about ten minutes or so when Sydney decided that open house was for the birds and it was time for dinner. So I started to walk the halls with a not so quiet little girl and Sara continued the house opening. Finally it was almost time to go and all that was left to do was sign up for the bus. So Sara nominated Sydney and I to wait in line and she would take Bryce to meet his other teacher. Sydney and I arrived at the back of the line and she immediately began to scream at the top of her lungs. For a few minutes I was very embarrassed and concerned for the sake of the other parents. Thankfully a delightful young lady came and got behind us in the line. She took one look at the line and let out a beautifully worded string of obscenities to let every one around her know that she was displeased with the length of the line. Meanwhile Sydney is giving the screaming and squirming all she had when our new friend behind us announced to the room, " I can't stand in this #@*&!# line and listen to this child scream. My embarrassment instantly melted away and was replaced by a much different feeling. I must admit that I may have even pinched Sydney a few times to help the pitch of her squeals get just a little bit higher. Finally we met back up with Sara and I escorted the kids out to the van while Sara waited in line. Ah, the joys of annoying the day lights out of impatient people. I am not a big fan of whining and I have very little patience for my children when they whine. However it has become crystal clear to me that children do not whine nearly as much as adults.
Ryanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11964121313911120429noreply@blogger.com0
